Best known in the United States for her role as Hannah “Wellsy” Wells in Amazon Prime Video’s hit romance series Off Campus, Bright has built an impressive career spanning West End theater, British children’s television, and now major American streaming platforms. Here’s everything American audiences want to know about the rising star.

Ella Bright: Quick Facts

Early Life and Background

Ella Bright was born on November 27, 2006, in New York City, making her an American citizen by birth. However, she was raised primarily in North London, giving her a distinctly British upbringing alongside her American roots. Her father hails from Oklahoma, while her mother is originally from California, which explains Bright’s dual British-American citizenship.

Bright attended South Hampstead High School in London and completed her A Levels in 2025, balancing her rigorous acting career with her formal education. From a young age, she trained in acting, singing, and dance through performing arts classes, laying the groundwork for the multifaceted entertainer she would become.

Career Beginnings: From Child Actress to West End Star

Ella Bright’s screen career began early. She made her television debut in 2015 in an episode of the TNT crime drama Legends. Just two years later, at the age of 11, she stepped onto one of the world’s most prestigious stages, making her West End theater debut as Lily Potter Jr. in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in 2017.

That same year, she landed a role in the feature film Holmes & Watson, starring alongside comedy heavyweights Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly, further establishing her presence in front of the camera at a young age.

Bright also made a notable appearance as a young Kate Middleton in Netflix’s acclaimed historical drama The Crown, adding another prestigious credit to her growing resume before she had even reached her teenage years.

Malory Towers: The Role That Earned Award Nominations

Ella Bright’s breakout role came through the CBBC adaptation of Malory Towers, the beloved British boarding-school series based on Enid Blyton’s classic novels. Playing Darrell Rivers from 2020 to 2025, Bright delivered a performance that resonated with young audiences across the UK and beyond.

Her work on the series earned her nominations for both a Children’s BAFTA and a Children’s and Family Emmy Award, cementing her status as one of the most promising young talents in British television.

Off Campus: Ella Bright’s Breakthrough in the United States

While Bright had already built a strong reputation in the UK, it was her casting in Amazon Prime Video’s Off Campus that introduced her to a much wider American audience. In the series, which premiered in 2026, Bright plays Hannah “Wellsy” Wells, a role that has since become her most recognized part in the United States.

Off Campus is a romance drama that follows the lives, relationships, and personal growth of a group of college students, and it has quickly become one of Prime Video’s standout hits. Bright stars alongside co-star Mika Abdalla, who plays Allie Hayes, and the two actresses have publicly shared that they enjoy spending downtime together off-set, bonding over shared interests outside of filming. Beyond Acting: Ella Bright’s Personal Interests

In interviews, she has shared that her fascination with cosmetics began in childhood, when she would experiment with makeup borrowed from her mother’s collection — including her mother’s red lipstick, one of her favorite items to play with.

Bright has described her childhood beauty experiments as similar to today’s popular “shower makeup” trend, where dramatic, colorful looks are created purely for fun before being washed off. She has even joked that if she ever launched her own beauty product, she already has a name picked out: a playful nod to her own surname, “Bright.”

She also has two sisters, Georgia and Phoebe, and has spoken about growing up in a close-knit family that supported her early entry into the entertainment industry.
